El
Cotillo,
El Cotillo which which lies approximately 1km South
is a small typical fishing village. While not a large
resort in itself it does provide one with a good selection
of restaurants, bars and beach bars. There are small
supermarkets, a nice bakery, some souvenir shops. Bank
and ATM facilities are available as well as Internet
access. Bicycles are also available for hire. El Cotillo
has some of the nicest beaches with small sheltered
coves, the calm waters allow for safe bathing for both
adults and children alike.
Corralejo,
Corralejo was originally a small fishing village that
has expanded into the major international holiday resort,
that accommodates the whole range of activities that
you would associate with a thriving holiday destination,
including all the water based activities you can think
of. Many of these are based around the new port but
others are practiced on the outskirts of the town. To
the south of the town is a natural park that consists
of a large area of sand dunes, which you will see as
you journey from the airport to Corralejo.
Puerto
Del Rosario, (The Capital)
The Capital continues to remain tourist free, so Spanish
lifestyle can be experienced on a visit to one of the
many local restaurants, bars and markets. Puerto del
Rosario is based around a port that has grown from its
humble origins as the Puerto del Cabras (port of the
goats) into a busy working port that continues to develop.
Puerto del Rosario has its own beaches. The larger one
is to be found to the south of the capital. The waves
are good, and the beach is used by some of Fuerteventura's
surf schools, but there are signs warning of strong
currents, so care is needed when bathing here. During
the summer months the flag system operates and these
should be heeded.
Infrastructure,
There is a good infrastructure throughout the island,
allowing for an easy scenic drive to all parts of the
island, trips to all major features of the island can
generally be made in less than an hours drive. Car hire
is available at most tourist locations.
